A Unique Sense of Humor

Today, while at my field placement, one of my field instructors was speaking to the class when she read a quote from the group devotion book.

It said something like, “The key to power is understanding your own emotions.”

When I first read this, it kind of made me laugh a bit inside. I personally thought it sounded like something from a Saturday Morning kid’s Superhero cartoon that teaches good values and how to be a good person. I had this image of a badly drawn cartoon superhero dressed in tights, holding the bad guy by his collar and looking down at the children with his chest all puffed out. Then he says the quote,

“The key to power is understanding your own emotions!”

And then the children clap and cheer and the superhero flies off into the night sky.

The field instructor went around the room and asked us all what we thought of the quote. When it came to be my turn, I decided to express my amusement with the quote. After my explanation, she looked at me, laughed, and told me I had a very likable and unique sense of humor.

Those of you who know me would understand that I took great pride in this comment. I am proud of my unique sense of humor and I feel it defines me. Even though, in a random time, I might announce, “When life hands you lemons, make PUDDING!” just to get a reaction. I not only enjoy a good laugh, but I like creating a sense of amused confusion to accompany my innane comments. I have been called odd before and have been compared to Luna Lovegood on several, separate occasions. Even still, Michaela loves my odd sense of humor, mainly being that she has a similar sense of humor as well. I find that brings us closer together :D

Afterwards, I did, in fact, explain my real thoughts about the quote. Perhaps knowing and understanding our feelings gives us the power to control our emotions. Just some food for thought :D
